The Karr Family started in Bliesransbach Germany with Johann (John) Karr senior,
and his wife Margarete Follmar.
Johann Karr had one son Martin Karr senior,and had four daughters,all born in Germany
in Europe. Their names are Gertrude, Maria, Catharina, Margarete, Barbara.
His son Martin senior, came to the United States around 1887 and used the Port of Cherbourg France .
Martin met and married Cynthia Hessler in the United States.
Cynthia Hessler was born in 1879 in Germany, and died in 1965 in Calumet City Illinois.
Cynthia Hessler's father, was John Hessler. Who was also born in Germany.
After coming to the United States, and settling in Illinois. He became the First Village
President of West Hammond, Illinois in 1893. Which is now Calumet City, Illinois.
John Hessler was married to, Kreszentia Graf, but she died in Germany. All five children,
were put into an orphanage. Then John Hessler Immigrated, and settled in the United States.
As the story goes, John Hessler came to the United States, and sent for each one of his
children, one at a time. One of John Hessler daughters was Cynthia Hessler.
Who met and married Martin Karr senior, here in Calumet City area.
Martin Karr senior was born in the year 1866, in Saarbucken, Germany and died in
Calumet City Illinois, Jan 8, 1924 from a accident at the age of 58, while cutting
a tree in the Cemetery.
When Martin died his youngest was Bernard age 6 and the oldest was Emma age 25 Martin Karr
senior, had seven sons. Martin Herman Karr, Bernard, Walter, Arthur,
Charles , John, and Joseph, who did not live long.
Also he had 3 daughters, Martha, Emma, and Theresa who died about Two years old.
Martin Herman Karr, who was my Father ! Was born March 30, 1906 in Calumet City, Ill.
And lived 60 years of his 83 years, in Hammond, Indiana, with his second wife.
Lorraine Hess and their two children, Dennis Lee karr, and Kathleen Sandra Karr.
Martin Herman Karr, first wife was Opal Goodknight. They had one stillborn child,
and they divorced in 1944.
Lorraine Hess was born April 28, 1919 and Married Martin in 1946.
She lived until May Tenth 1986. Her parents were Erwin Hess, and Viola Ingle.
Lorraine Hess great Great, Grand father was Joseph Hess senior, the founder,
of Hessville Indiana.
And the town of Hessville Indiana, was named for Joseph Hess senior, in 1850.
Joseph Hess senior, Immigrated from Alsace Lorraine, a region of France.
He was the first white settler, in the lake county region of Indiana.
Dennis and Kathleen Karr have never married, but I am glad to say, the Karr
family name will survived. Our cousin Michael Karr, son's of Walter Karr, had two boys Jason and Bryan and one girl.
Jimmy Karr wife also has two sons.The Karr name will be carried on into the 21st century.
